What Are the Network Requirements?

Minimum bandwidth, ports, whitelisted domains and connectivity requirements for the HoxtonAi S1 sensor.

S1 sensor network requirements

The HoxtonAi S1 sensor can connect via Wi-Fi or fixed Ethernet connection to transmit data to the cloud. S1 sensors require minimal bandwidth.

The S1 sensors require constant connectivity. Please ensure that you provide adequate network coverage for the sensors when installing them.

Wi-Fi and Ethernet

For Wi-Fi connectivity the S1 sensors can operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

For Ethernet, please use cables that are rated Cat5e or higher.

Ports

S1 sensors make use of the following ports for operation:

Whitelisted domains

You should whitelist the following domains for the relevant ports above:

  • *.balena-cloud.com
  • *.amazonaws.com
  • hoxton.cloud
  • *.googleapis.com
  • 8.8.8.8
  • *.pool.ntp.org

DHCP

S1 sensors make use of DHCP. Static IP functionality may be added in the future.

Special network configurations

If the network you would like to connect to has any of the following properties:

  • Hidden SSID
  • Splash page
  • Company firewall
